GRAND HAVEN, Mich. - Dec. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- Little ScholarTM, the children’s learning tablet developed by Michigan based School Zone, has been nominated by the Toy Industry Association for the Toy of the Year award.

Known as the “Oscars” of the toy industry, the 2015 TOTY awards recognize the top toys available during the current holiday season.  Developed by the experts in education, Little Scholar was selected as a finalist for the TOTY educational category, which is focused on toys that “help children to develop special skills and knowledge through play.”

A total of 84 unique Toy of the Year finalists were selected for toys in 10 categories, including toys for boys or girls, infants and toddlers, outdoor, games and others.  School Zone and other nominees were chosen by committees comprised of play experts, journalists, academics, retailers and other toy experts.

“We are very excited to be named as a finalist for the Toy of the Year awards,” said Jonathan Hoffman, president and CEO of School Zone. “As a company that has been creating children’s education products for more than 35 years, we’ve developed Little Scholar to be the best learning device for kids from preschool through first grade.

“Our goal is always to promote learning in a safe, fun environment that encourages children to explore and to develop new skills.  Pre-loaded with over 200 apps, Little Scholar is an easy-to-use device that parents can feel good about and combines a curriculum that includes math, reading, spelling and more.”

Just for parents, Little Scholar features an A+ app that tracks their child’s progress and shows how much time their child has spent on each topic or curriculum area. Little Scholar has password-protected parental controls, which include access to the device’s control settings and a custom app store for additional downloads. Not only can parents see what their children are viewing, they can see what they are not viewing – and encourage them to spend a little less time watching videos and a little more time on math or reading.

Little Scholar may be geared for kids, but adults will appreciate these nuts and bolts. Little Scholar has a whopping 8-inch screen – larger than many adult tablets – and includes a Google Android™ 4.2.2 operating system, a 1.2 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor, a PowerVR SGX540 GPU, 8 GB of storage (with Micro SD cards compatible up to 32 GB), 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth® 4.0, a front-and-rear facing camera and seven hours of battery life.

The announcement of the TOTY award nominees launches a voting process that will continue through the announcement, which is scheduled for Feb 13, 2015 at Toy Week in New York City.  Winners will be inducted into the Toy Hall of Fame.

Mass and specialty retailers, media and Toy Industry Association members will have the opportunity to submit a voting ballot for TOTY. These votes will be used to determine winners in each toy category as well an overall TOTY award. Additionally, a People’s Choice Award will be given based solely on consumer votes received via www.ToyAwards.org.

Little Scholar is available for sale at Toys R Us locations around Michigan and online at https://www.schoolzone.com/little-scholar.
