Dec. 4, 2014 - PRLog -- Nativity play shortage forces parents online, says Fancy Dress Fast

This week (on December 2 2014) a survey by parenting site, Netmums, revealed that the number of schools putting on nativity plays is dwindling. However a look at Google trends reveals that more internet users are searching for nativity related terms than ever before.

Brits are hankering after a traditional Christmas, complete with a nativity play, while British schools are removing the important cultural aspects of our favourite holiday. Netmums highlights that 47% of schools offer an updated nativity while 1 in 8 have done away with the Christmas Story altogether, in favour of secular ‘winter celebrations’.

At the same time the percentage of internet users searching for nativity related terms has increased 50% since last year. So while schools attempt to remove the traditional element from Christmas, parents are searching to fill the gap.

With these statistics in mind, Fancy Dress Fast (http://www.fancydressfast.com/christmas-nativity-play-costumes/ ) is championing the traditional nativity play- whether it takes place at school, nursery, church or elsewhere. FDF customers have reported that a Christmas with a traditional nativity play is particularly special for young children, as everybody, old and young, can relate to this festive tradition.  Children performing a traditional play bring their own unique perspective to their celebration. FDF customers have shared the funny things their children have ad-libbed into nativity plays.

Caroline, from Plymouth, says: “My 4 year old, was asked, during the play, what the special baby was called. He replied ‘Wayne’, when his teacher asked why he thought this, he said ‘because we sing ‘Wayne in a manger.’

Jessica from Exeter says:  “I’ve got two under 7 and over the last couple of years we had them holding Jesus upside down, singing the wrong words and asking to go for a wee in the middle of Oh Come All Ye Faithful.

Sharon from Taunton says “My little one was so proud so have a speaking part last year, he was the Inn Keeper. When Mary and Joseph came to knock on his door, asking ‘have you any room?’ he said ‘Yep, come in I’ll put the kettle on.’
