STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Dec. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- A fabulous evening of food, music and Monte Carlo-style casino games was held at Jefferson’s Ferry recently to benefit the Successful Aging Project. The Project, when completed, will house a wide variety of mind and body wellness programs open to all Long Island seniors on the grounds of the Jefferson’s Ferry Lifecare Retirement Community in South Setauket.

To the residents of Jefferson’s Ferry, successful aging is a way of life, with opportunities for lifelong learning, new relationships, and activities that promote optimal physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Jefferson’s Ferry Foundation Successful Aging Project will bring these services to seniors in the area who are unable to afford the lifestyle as a resident.  With the expansion of its community center, Jefferson’s Ferry will offer a comprehensive and multi-disciplinary suite of services to all of Long Island’s older adult population.  The Jefferson’s Ferry Foundation has been working hard toward attaining its goal of raising $1 Million for the Successful Aging Project; one of its largest efforts is Monte Carlo Night.  This year, just over 300 tickets were purchased for Monte Carlo Night, which along with proceeds from games and raffles raised $120,000.  To date, the Foundation has raised nearly $438,000 for the Successful Aging Project.

“The incredible response of our residents, friends and neighbors has been extremely gratifying,” said Robert Caulfield, President and CEO of Jefferson’s Ferry.  “While Monte Carlo Night has always been open to the larger community, this year we promoted it with local advertising and posters at area businesses. These efforts and a greater community awareness and support of our Successful Aging Project led to this year’s tremendous success.”

The evening’s festivities also included three award presentations.  Jefferson’s Ferry resident Doris Williams received The Community Builder Award in recognition of her many contributions to both Jefferson’s Ferry and the larger Three Village community.  As Jefferson’s Ferry’s first volunteer librarian, Doris set up the catalog systems for the library’s materials. She has also volunteered extensively at Jefferson’s Ferry’s Bove Health Center, and is widely admired for her many philanthropic commitments near and far. As a beneficiary of Jefferson’s Ferry’s existing Successful Aging programs, Mrs. Williams is a strong proponent of the Successful Aging Project.  “Completing the Successful Aging Project will surely enhance the lives of the residents, as well as those of our neighbors in the larger outside community,” said Mrs. Williams.

Dr. Mitchell L. Steinberg, podiatrist of Stony Brook received the 2014 Humanitarian of the Year Award for his philanthropic leadership and commitment to helping others.   Dr. Steinberg joined the Jefferson’s Ferry Foundation Board of Trustees in 2005 and has been an avid supporter of its fundraising efforts. To Dr. Steinberg, “the Successful Aging Project means the ability for Jefferson’s Ferry to share with the community its fantastic facilities and wonderful programs, and to be able to bring quality health services to our neighbors in need.”

Business Partner of the Year Dr. Ron Vitori is a principal and founder of Green Peak Group, LLC and GreenPeakC4, Inc.  An active consultant on several Jefferson’s Ferry projects, Vitori has expertise in value engineering, project development and administration, and is committed to energy, environmental issues and “Green Construction.“
