GMB Architecture + Engineering Awarded Prestigious LEED® Green Building Certification

HOLLAND, Mich. - Dec. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- GMB Architecture + Engineering (GMBae) is proud to announce that the new Park Plaza at Grand Rapids Community College has earned LEED® silver certification established by the U.S. Green Building Council and verified by the Green Building Certification Institute. LEED is the nation’s preeminent program for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings.

“I’m pleased to celebrate the LEED-certified Silver designation with Grand Rapids Community College,” said Project Leader, Trent De Boer. “Working together, we met, and sometimes exceeded, the most ambitious energy reduction goals in the nation. The college wins by decreasing the cost of operation and ownership, and we all win due to the reduced impact on the environment.”

“Building operations are nearly 40% of the solution to the global climate challenge,” said Rick Fedrizzi, President, CEO & Founding Chair, U.S. Green Building Council. “While climate change is a global problem, innovative companies like GMB Architecture + Engineering are addressing it through local solutions.”

LEED certification of Parks Plaza on the campus of Grand Rapids Community College was based on a number of green design and construction features that positively impact the project itself and the broader community. These features include:

Design Innovation above LEED standards
Resourceful use of material resources
Reduced impact on the environment
Water use reduction and reduced burden on municipal water supply and waste water systems
