ESPIONAGE CAREER LEADS AUTHOR TO WRITE CIA THRILLER

New novel is set in 1986 during the rise of global terrorism

CHICAGO, 12/01/2014 —With careers in the Central Agency Intelligence Agency (CIA), corporate intelligence, and international politics, Joe Goldberg’s debut novel Secret Wars: An Espionage Story is an authentic look into the world of espionage.  Meticulously researched, it pulls from his personal experiences at the CIA.

Set in 1986, Secret Wars: An Espionage Story is a tale of deception, betrayal, and patriotism. When terrorists funded by the regime of Libya's Muammar Qadhafi strike, the CIA enlists propaganda expert Mike Garnett to recruit a high-ranking Libyan official to work for the United States. As violence escalates between the US military and Libya, Garnett utilizes CIA assets in Hollywood to produce a propaganda video designed to convince the official he was betrayed by his own regime. Garnett's plan works—but it has unintended consequences to those involved.

“This is fiction, but my mantra was to be as accurate as I could without going to prison,” Goldberg said. “By signed secrecy agreement, this manuscript was sent to the CIA’s Publications Review Board for review and approval.”

For fans of Tom Clancy, David Ignatius, and Frederick Forsyth, Secret Wars is a fictional thriller set against the backdrop of historical events.

LtCol Oliver North, USMC (Ret.), and host of War Stories on FOX News Channel, agrees. “In Secret Wars, Joe recounts true stories in a heart-thumping novel that’s spot on for events then — and now.”

Joe Goldberg has worked in intelligence and politics his entire career. A recipient of numerous prestigious awards over his thirty years of working, Goldberg is a published author and frequent speaker on intelligence subjects. He is a member of the International Thriller Writers, Association of Former Intelligence Officers, Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals.
