Ian N. Friedman Defends Client Against Claims of Transmitting Malicious Computer Code

Friedman is representing a client who has been brought up on federal charges of transmitting and attempting to transmit computer codes, programs, or commands with the intent to cause damage to a protected computer in connection with their employment at Eaton Corporation.

The client was hired by Eaton Corporation as a contract financial analyst in November 2013. In April 2014, the defendant applied for full-time positions at the company and was turned down. The indictment states that on or around May 21, 2014, the defendant obtained access to the Eaton Corporation computer system and inserted malicious computer codes that would have deleted the data and files of six financial spreadsheets of Eaton Corporation. The existence of the code was discovered on May 23, 2014 after the defendant told a co-worker about its presence on the computers.

Prior to this accusation, the defendant has a spotless criminal record and has been a law-abiding and productive member of society. The defense was arrested on November 14, 2014, and released on a $20,000 bond. The pre-trial hearing will be held on January 5, 2015. The trial is set for January 12, 2015.
