Dec. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Sacred Heart School (www.sacredheartkingston.com), a private, Catholic, co-educational school for students in preschool through grade 12, will implement the Full Option Science System (FOSS) this academic year for students in grades K through 6 as part of the school’s coordinated focus on its STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) program.

The FOSS program is recognized for engaging students in the study of the concepts and practices of science; students become involved through hands-on exploration and the program provides a progression of experiences that leads to in-depth understanding.

Kits – or modules – are supplied with all the materials that the early childhood and elementary level students will need for the lesson in the areas of physical science, earth science, and life science.   The FOSS program is one element of a campus-wide initiative to support the STEAM program.  Other STEAM-related initiatives introduced at Sacred Heart include iPad-enhanced teaching methods, classroom SMARTboards and a state-of-the-art computer lab.  Sacred Heart School is recognized for integrating educational technology throughout its curriculum as a tool to enhance and enrich the teaching and learning process.

“Each FOSS program investigation is driven by a focus question which signals the challenge to be met or the mystery to be solved through planning, investigation, carrying it out and thinking about their observations,” said Sacred Heart School President Pamela Desmarais.  “Students are able to answer the focus question, but most importantly, they can support their conclusion.”
