SINGAPORE - Dec. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Telekomunikasi Indonesia International Pte Ltd (Telin Singapore), a subsidiary of PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia, announced that it has been awarded the first plot of land at Singapore’s Data Centre Park (DCP) by Jurong Town Corporation (JTC) for the development of a data centre and telecommunication hub.

To be built at DCP in Jurong on an 8,000-square meters plot of land, the new facility will strengthen Telin Singapore’s infrastructure to support PT Telkom Indonesia’s regional growth and its international network expansion to meet global and regional customers’ growing demand.

Construction of the 20,000 square metres purpose-built data centre facility will start in 2015 and the centre is expected to start supporting its customers in the 4th quarter of 2016.  The centre is planned to be a critical resource for customers across multiple industries.

“Telin Singapore Data Centre and Telecommunication Hub is an important and strategic investment that the Telkom Group has undertaken. This state-of-the-art data centre and telecommunication hub investment will help to propel Telkom Group to embrace its future growth strategy through borderless communication and virtualisation of services. We are very pleased and honoured to be the first company in Singapore to obtain this land allocation via Singapore Government’s Data Center Park initiative,” said Septika N Widyasrini, CEO of Telin Singapore.

To boost speed and provide low latency connectivity between Indonesia and Singapore, the Telin Data Centre and Telecommunication Hub will be connected directly to Indonesia via its wholly-owned submarine cable systems. These cable systems are robust and reliable with an extensive portfolio that offers global connectivity to Asia, the US and Europe.

In support of the 2014 Singapore Green Data Centre Technology Roadmap, the Telin Data Centre will be designed to be technologically sustainable and energy efficient. It will adopt a multi-tier design in its system, which enables flexibility and modularity to meet future requirements of the customers.

The design of the Telin data centre allows for lower development and maintenance costs. The innovative design is expected to be certified to meet Tier-III and Tier-IV by Uptime Institute, an independent consulting and research company for the enterprise data centre industry. The data centre will also incorporate an energy efficient cooling system.

Khoong Hock Yun, Assistant Chief Executive, Development Group, IDA, and Chairman of the Data Centre Park Implementation Committee, said: “In our vision to build the world’s first Smart Nation, data centres are an important infrastructure that supports our growing digital economy, which includes the hosting of mission-critical operations and enabling activities such as cloud computing and data analytics. IDA, in collaboration with EDB and JTC, has established that data centres also serve as important telecommunications and internet traffic aggregation nodes, thereby enhancing connectivity within and to Singapore.”

DCP is a joint initiative between the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA), Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) and JTC. DCP is part of Singapore’s effort to strengthen its position as an infocomm and media hub to attract multinationals, enterprises and Internet and media companies to host their content and services in the island nation.
