Ordinary Housewife Braves Kickstarter

Amongst a sea of techies, start-ups and gadgets, an ordinary housewife's tale

GILLINGHAM, U.K. - Nov. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- When British housewife, Sheila Ware came up with a new kitchen accessory to help with food preparation process, the last place people expected her to launch it was on Kickstarter. After all, they argued, Kickstarter is for professional artists, designers and techies and certainly not a place for a middle aged woman pitching a cooking accessory.  Undeterred, Sheila pressed on and has now launched her product, CookStarta.

'The trouble with me is, if anyone says don't even think about doing something, my instinct is to do just the opposite.  And anyway, why shouldn't I present an idea as well as all these young intelligent people?'

Now launched on the crowd-funding site, the CookStarta came about because Sheila felt that while there were plenty of accessories to deal with the sexier, more exciting side of cooking, there was nothing to help with the equally important but far less exciting part of the cooking process: initial food preparation.

'I've always felt that TV chefs and cookery programmes paint an unrealistic picture.  How many of us have an army of assistants who'll peel, chop and neatly present our ingredients so that they're ready for use?  For most of us mere mortals, it's get your chopping board out, roll your sleeves up and get your hands dirty!'

With help from the Caparo Innovation Centre at Wolverhampton University and various user groups, Sheila set about designing a light, easy to use product that would make the whole process less messy and more organised.

'I wanted something that would not only deal hygienically with the mountain of detritus that accumulates on our chopping boards but could also then be used to easily transfer the chopped, prepared ingredients to the pot. That product is now known as CookStarta.'

Manufactured in food-grade polypropylene and available in the four main food-group chopping board colours, CookStarta clips together for use in seconds then folds flat for easy storage and cleaning.  It is also completely dishwasher proof.

‘I am so pleased with the final design and can't wait for my innovative concept to be available to everyone.’

CookStartas can be purchased individually (currently £7 with free UK postage) or in sets during the Kickstarter campaign which runs until 9th January 2015.
