Invites Public to Special Workshop

The Jewel is in the Lotus

Facilitated by Kate Ann Heidelbach, MFA

At Delray Beach Center for the Arts

Saturday, December 6 at 1 pm

(Delray Beach, FL – November 28, 2014)  The Palm Beach Poetry Festival is preparing for its 11th season with a special pre-holiday workshop for local poets: The Jewel is in the Lotus, which will be held on Saturday, December 6, at 1 pm, at the Delray Beach Center for the Arts at 51 North Swinton Avenue.

"During this workshop, participants will explore the connections between turning inward to meditate and turning inward to write. Ancient and modern poets alike have often looked to meditation as a way to calm the mind and assist with the writing process,” said Dr. Blaise Allen, the Poetry Festival’s Director of Community Outreach. “This workshop will offer a brief lecture on the historical connections between poetry and meditation, an optional non-denominational guided meditation, time to create original work in response to the lecture/practice, and the opportunity to share and discuss original work.”

Workshop facilitator Kate Ann Heidelbach, MFA is a recipient of the James A. Michener Fellowship at the University of Miami in Coral Gables. She has lectured extensively on a wide variety of writing genres for Nova Southeastern University and in Nassau, Bahamas. In addition, she is a certified Meditation Instructor with over a decade of teaching experience. Ms. Heidelbach has most enjoyed performing her work, both solo and with her band, at: AWP; Bowery Poetry Club, NYC; Churchill's, Miami; Luna Star Cafe, Miami; Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Coral Gables; The Poet’s Passage, Puerto Rico; and Myopic Books, Chicago. She is presently teaching privately and working on her first major collection of work, Starfruit.

There will be a $10 per person fee collected at the door, and participants need to be there by 1 pm.  For more details about this workshop, please visit http://palmbeachpoetryfestival.org
