On December15th, Cross Timbers Press will release their new Middle Grade/Early Teen novel of airship adventure, High Wind to Idaho, written for boys.

This book is a middle-grade historical airship adventure set during the America's first UFO scare of 1896, and foretells the later Fu-Go Japanese balloon bombs of W.W.II. Yoshi, a young Japanese boy steals a ride on a secret balloon and ends up in the USA, as the nation worries about Aliens, Martian landings and mysterious airship sightings.

He lands on an Idaho farm where another boy, Billy, and his mother, hide Yoshi from a zealous sheriff and vengeful neighbors. Yoshi must get back to Japan before the secret of this new balloon gets out and his uncle's reputation is destroyed. Yoshi and Billy learn to adapt to each others culture as Yoshi is driven to return and apologize to his uncle, or face the humiliation of betraying his ancient samurai family honor.

They hatch a plan to hoodwink the sheriff and leave town on a rail journey that exposes Yoshi to oriental hate and bigotry as Billy helps protect him. Once in San Francisco they are accosted by a Japanese Army Officer bent on returning Yoshi to Japan and chased by a female Pinkerton detective determined to capture Yoshi and hand him over to the new US Army Intelligence Service. The novel was inspired by the Great Texas Airship Mystery of 1897 that occurred in nearby Aurora, Texas.

High Wind to Idaho was featured in the Nov.-Dec. issue of Middle Shelf Magazine and reviewed by Linzé Brandon's Butterfly on a Broomstick book blog. It rates a 4.5 star review on Amazon. Cross Timbers Press publishes novels and other works for Middle Grade through Young Adult readers. Our focus is on subjects that appeal to boys, mainly, yet interesting enough for girls. These books tell stories as living history, putting the reader in the midst of actual events and situations alongside the principal actors taking part. Sometimes the readers meet famous people who were actually there, shaping the events. We may throw in some science and technology, to give the reader an understanding of how their world works, in a non-threatening way for extra science reading credit.

The Author, Rod Barclay, is a retired Engineer and Industrial Designer who has studied aeronautical design and balloon developments of the 19th Century, as well as the impact of technology on society throughout history. He writes and edits a regional classic car newsletter and recently published a book on the history of the automobile air conditioning industry in North Texas. This is his first novel. He lives in Texas with his wife and three miniature wire-haired dachshunds.

High Wind To Idaho is published through Amazon CreateSpaced, with ISBN#9780615963129. List price is $12.95 in paperback. A Kindle version is in development with a projected list price of $7.95.

Distribution will be through Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com and wholesale through Baker & Taylor and Ingram.
