Japanese Martial Arts Center Hosts Food Drive "Battle of the Martial Arts"

Canned Food Raised for Washtenaw County Area at Local Ann Arbor Martial Arts Dojo

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Nov. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- From November 4-25, the Japanese Martial Arts Center hosted a food drive coined "Battle of the Martial Arts" to fight hunger in Washtenaw County.

Internal rivalry flared, as each martial arts class competed in bringing the most canned food items. In a close race among the adult classes, Judo reigned supreme with 87 cans. Jujutsu came with a close second at 85 cans. Iaido brought 82 cans, Kids Karate brought 33 cans, and Kids Judo brought in 6 cans. The grand total was 293 cans and weighed in at 287 pounds of food.

The Japanese Martial Arts Center donated all food items to Food Gatherers, which is a member of Feeding America - the nation's food bank network. Proceeds will impact Washtenaw County directly. 14.2% of Washtenaw County is below the poverty level.

"Some of my students depend on drives like this," one dojo member remarked. "This is personal."
