BELMAR, N.J. - Nov. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- When newspapers lay off writers, the art world is affected as well.  Writers covering dance or theatre are generally among the first to go.  Their words are not only missed by those who appreciate the art forms, but by the companies that rely on critical performance reviews by well known and respected critics for arts grant purposes.  New Jersey Stage, which seeks to fill the arts journalism void created by newspaper layoffs, is proud to present its first critical review in the November issue of its monthly magazine.

In the issue, noted dance critic Robert Johnson reviews the October 17 preview performance of A Midsummer’s Night Dream by the American Repertory Ballet at Union County PAC’s Hamilton Stage. Using a combination of colorful photos and actual video from the event, New Jersey Stage presents a dance review unlike any other.

New Jersey Stage is a monthly, interactive magazine that incorporates audio and video into the publication to tell the “story behind the story”.  Each issue contains dozens of videos from film trailers to music videos and television show clips designed to help the reader learn more.

Issues are available for free at www.NJArtsMag.com.  The publication is designed to be read on any PC, tablet, or smart phone.  The magazine can also be downloaded and read offline.

In addition to the dance review, the November issue contains features on musicians Willie Nile and Lauren Marsh; theatrical shows including The Fabulous Lipitones, The Underclassman, Sister Act, and Elf the Musical; film reviews of The Imitation Game and The Babadook; features on comedian Jay Black, photographers David Bergman and Erin Feinberg, and filmmaker Tom Ryan.  Dance is further covered with a look at the Art of Motion Dance Theatre who recently performed at TEDMED and profiles on Roxey Ballet and Alborada Spanish Dance.

“Our magazine lets you experience the arts like never before,” explained Gary Wien, publisher.  “Why just read about a new album when you can hear songs from it? Or show dance moves in action? Or run a trailer for a film alongside its review? We go beyond the reach of print!”
