Local Union Carpenters Donate to the Dream Center Thanksgiving events

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Nov. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) members from Local 224 presented the Dream Center with a $200 check for the upcoming Thanksgiving season. This is the first time Local 224 has donated to the Dream Center.

The Dream Center assists at-risk children and their families in the Jacobsville neighborhood in Evansville to become self-sufficient. The nonprofit organization provides children with nutritional, educational and recreational programs.

The Carpenters Union’s donation has been used to help support the Dream Center’s two Thanksgiving events - the Thanksgiving basket delivery food drive and Feast for Friends.

This year, 500 baskets will be made and delivered to community members in need. Each basket contains a turkey, side items, fresh fruit and kid-friendly foods. Feast for Friends is a Thanksgiving meal offered each year on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. The free meal is often attended by the homeless and those in need in the community.

“We do this because so many people in our community go hungry on Thanksgiving,” said Bill Scruggs, Director of Services at the Dream Center. “And many of the kids in our programs come from broken homes, so this is our way of giving them the traditional Thanksgiving meal they wouldn’t have otherwise. And thanks to donations like the IKORCC’s, this year we  are making more Thanksgiving baskets than ever. We are so grateful to everyone who has contributed to our cause.”

“The mission of the Dream Center is so inspiring. We truly believe in what they do, and we feel very privileged to support them with a monetary donation, knowing that it will give our community members a full meal this Thanksgiving,” said IKORCC Representative Marvin Byrer.
