Public Policy Consulting: Denver Marketing Agency Exec. Volunteers in Washington, DC to Fix the Debt

Denver public policy consulting expert John Brackney recently traveled to Washington, DC, to train fellow volunteers on how to Fix the Debt.

DENVER - Nov. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- The week of November 17, 2014, John Brackney, Director of Strategic Community and Public Policy Engagement at Denver marketing agency Webolutions, trained fellow volunteers on how to spread the message of Fix the Debt.

“Fix the Debt is a significant grassroots effort to educate American citizens on the importance of putting America back on a long-term fiscally sound basis,” said Brackney, who has served as County Commissioner in Arapahoe County, Colorado, and was constantly in a public policy consulting role as the CEO and President of the South Metro Denver Chamber for ten years. “Only when citizens understand the importance of acting now rather than later will Congress have the will to act rationally.”

Brackney, a member of the Steering Committee for Fix the Debt Colorado, said his volunteer work for Fix the Debt is rooted in a desire to, “gain knowledge about our federal budget, priorities or lack thereof, revenues and expenditures.” The trip to Washington, D.C., was his second in similar capacity. The first spawned a five-week effort wherein Brackney traveled 3,000 miles and visited 38 communities across Colorado, speaking to business and media leaders in the “Colorado Common Sense Tour.”

The national Fix the Debt movement enjoys bipartisan support, including Republican Senators Alan Simpson of Wyoming, Sam Nunn of Georgia and Tim Wirth of Colorado and Democrat Mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg. Fix the Debt Colorado is co-chaired by former Governor Dick Lamm (D) and includes Rep. Mike Coffman (R).

In 2014, Brackney penned op-ed pieces in major Colorado newspapers encouraging interested parties to visit the Fix the Debt website (www.fixthedebt.org) for more information, sign an online petition and speak with elected officials. An entreaty published in August, 2014, for elected officials to stop “fighting” and “be problem solvers” about Social Security was bolstered by a meeting he put together two weeks later in which Lamm and Coffman addressed a group including Sen. Mark Udall (D-CO), now Senator-elect Cory Gardner (R-CO), Rep. Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Rep. Diana Degette (D-CO). At that meeting, Lamm equated the current validity of the Social Security trust fund to “Confederate war bonds,” meaning the system is effectively bankrupt.

Brackney expects his recent trip to Washington, D.C., to generate additional awareness in Colorado about the current and potential impacts of the extraordinary national debt. “Our newly-trained volunteers,” he said, “will use their training to create conversations through community meetings and outreach through traditional media and social media.”
