DONNELLY, Idaho - Nov. 25, 2014 - PRLog -- A blanket of fresh powder snow now disguises the challenging bunkers and rolling fairways of Osprey Meadows (http://tamarackidaho.com/summer_adventure/golf/) golf course at Tamarack Resort, but it can’t hide Dustin Simons’ enthusiasm over the course’s ranking as the country’s 63rd best resort course in this year’s ratings (http://golfweek.com/news/2014/nov/05/golfweeks-best-resort-courses-2015/?RANKINGS-GolfweeksBest) just released by Golf Week magazine.

“It gives legitimacy not only to us, but to Valley County as a destination for golf enthusiasts,” said Simons, the head golf pro for Osprey Meadows at Tamarack Resort.

Tamarack jumped to 63rd from last year’s ranking as the 81st best resort course in the country. Whitetail Club in McCall, Idaho, was 77th this year, down three spots from 2014. And Circling Raven in Worley, Idaho, retained its place as 99th best resort course again this year.

Pacific Dunes in Bandon, Oregon, led the rankings as the number 1 resort golf course.

“It’s still a little bit of a secret as to what a fantastic course that we have here in Idaho at a superb value compared to other highly regarded resort courses in this country,” said Simons.  “For instance, our peak rate for eighteen holes of golf is just $74, compared to courses like Pacific Dunes at $325 or Whitetail in McCall which can go for north of $125.”

Simons attributed much of the improvement to staff and upgrades to equipment. “The hard work of course superintendents Ben Wilmarth and Jory Feider and their team, along with investments in new equipment and the support of our homeowners and hole sponsors, really paid off this year,” he said. “The green complexes rolled true and they were as firm and fast as we have seen in a long time.”

Osprey Meadows, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Robert and Bruce Charlton, opened in 2006. Simons, who uses the words “natural,” “picturesque,” and “stimulating” to describe Osprey Meadows, says the course’s setting is truly unique in the world of golf.

“Every hole has something that stays with you forever, and no course that I’m familiar with has the mountains, meadows and lake views we have here, not to mention the year-round wildlife,” he said.

Befitting its natural setting, Osprey Meadows at Tamarack Resort is also a member of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf, an award-winning education and certification program that helps golf courses protect the environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf. The program helps enhance valuable natural areas and wildlife habitats that golf courses provide.

Osprey Meadows at Tamarack Resort will open to the public for the summer season on Memorial Day weekend next year.
