RICHARDSON, Texas - Nov. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Legacy Christian Academy’s (http://www.legacyca.mcjr.net/page.cfm?p=1) Solar Car Team visited DFW Excellerator (http://dfwexcellerator.com/EN/index.aspx) Tuesday, November 18, 2014.  The students, and Dr. Brent Dragoo, (Dr. D), founder of the team presented to the audience of technology gurus present, including investors, IEEE members and other interested persons.

The CVT-IEEE November luncheon showcased the Liberty Christian Academy Solar Car team of Texas. Under the leadership of Dr. D, a team of 12 high schools students from Argyle, Texas built the fifth version of the solar car.  In 2014, the group of students competed in races from Texas to Los Angeles.  The team gave a short presentation about their design, materials used and performance statistics.

In 1993, Dr. Lehman Marks initiated the Solar Car Challenge, a contest in which high school and college students design, build, and race a solar-powered vehicle.  More than 65 schools in 20 states have participated in this event.  This creative engineering project showcases students’ abilities to problem solving and work as a team.

Liberty Christian Academy began dreaming of becoming a part of the Solar Car Challenge in 2006. Our first race at the Texas Motor Speedway occurred in 2008. The success of the program hinges on investment from members of the Applied Engineering class, high school volunteers, wonderful coaches, and faithful sponsors like CoServ Electric.

Across the U.S. students are getting exposure to engineering through the design, building and racing of solar cars.  The Solar Car Challenge was launched in 1993 to expose students to the fundamentals behind engineering, alternative fuels and integration of new technologies to improve a product.  Students have also learned how to compete and work as a team.  Liberty Christian Academy shared their story and asked for input into the design from the engineers in the group.

The team will be competing in the Global Solar Car Challenge in Australia in 2015.  To Learn More about the Liberty Christian Academy students participating in the Solar Car Challenge visit: http://www.libertychristian.com/solar-car.

All proceeds and donations from the event Tuesday, November 18th went to support STEM and the Solar Car Challenge.

Jason Liu, Founder and Managing Director of DFW Excellerator remarks, “We are so proud to support the next generation of the innovative mind.  Not only they think hard, they also perform and take it to the next level. “

STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) classes are being taught in numerous schools – both public and private.  Legacy Christian Academy identified the need to bring this science and technology to their students and starting with middle school, gives the students a solid foundation to build on through high school and college.  Nurturing the passion of students at an early age allows them to develop vision for their future careers.

DFW Excellerator offers numerous networking, educational and investment opportunities through programs and connections made.  Believing that entrepreneurial and technology passion may be fostered at an early age, DFW Excellerator offers programs such as Kidstarter, presentations such as this solar car presentation, IEEE presentations, and other entrepreneur programs.

One of the upcoming opportunities through DFW Excellerator is a trip to China.  With over $90B Chinese outward investment, the US market, and particularly the Texas market is of prime interest for Chinese investments, luring more than $14B in the past year.  The trip will connect entrepreneurs and investors, fund managers, science parks, manufacturing centers and various other connections to assist in business growth and sustainability.  To register for the trip please complete the registration form (http://www.jotform.us/form/42654120720141).
