Nov. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Midtown’s 42nd annual Noel Night celebration will include the St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center (http://www.svsfcenter.org/windows) (SVSF) “Windows of Opportunity” exhibit at the Detroit Historical Museum.

During the celebration on December 6, from 5 – 9 p.m., SVSF will pay the sales tax on any of its retail items sold in its exhibit space in the Community Gallery. Proceeds from the sale of the retail items will help SVSF to continue to provide free, personalized education programs to children and to adults seeking their GED in Southeastern Michigan.

Retail items inspired by the exhibit include:

•   Limited Edition Glass Ornaments - Hand-pressed glass ornament with featured stained glass figure in relief, made and packaged in Michigan. Each ornament is hand-dated with the production series. Available ornaments include individual Little Bo Peep, $25; or set of three - Little Bo Peep and Jack & Jill, $65.

Consistent with the original windows, the reproductions are mounted in wood frames. Limited to a quantity of 50, these reproductions retail at $1,800 each or two or more at $1,700.

St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center, celebrating its 170th anniversary, is hosting the exhibit at the museum through December 28. The exhibit features SVSF’s collection of historic stained glass windows depicting Mother Goose nursery rhymes. The exhibit shares the artistry and details of the windows, including the background of the different nursery rhymes and the history of SVSF and its current services, through a mix of art, information and an interactive kiosk. Included are 14 stained glass windows, featuring childhood favorites such as Little Bo Peep, Jack and Jill and others.

“These windows were part of a gift from Charles and Sarah Fisher, who rebuilt the center in 1929, after it was destroyed by fire,” said Diane Renaud, Executive Director/CEO of SVSF. “We are so grateful to the Detroit Historical Museum for enabling us to be part of Midtown’s 42nd Annual Noel Night.”

Admission to the “Windows of Opportunity” exhibit is free, and it is open to the public. The Detroit Historical Museum is open Tuesday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.The exhibit is on the second floor in the Community Gallery.  For more information, visit http://www.svsfcenter.org/windows

St. Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center began in 1844 as St. Vincent’s Academy in Detroit, a kindergarten for orphaned children. The organization evolved through the years and moved to Farmington Hills, establishing an adoption/foster care residence for children. In 2006, when policies and the economy changed, the Center closed its residential doors, but wanted to continue to fulfill its mission of serving at-risk children and adults. Identifying the significant need, the Center returned to Detroit and its roots of education and now provides free, personalized educational support for children and adults. These programs are designed to help build self-sufficiency skills for academic and employment success, personal achievement and dignity.
