Salvation Army Serves As Holiday Giving Clearinghouse

By: The Salvation Army

AKRON, Ohio - Nov. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- For many area families, holiday time brings additional stress.  Stress about putting a holiday meal together.  Stress about buying toys or clothes for the children in the family.  When there's not enough money during non-holiday times, how can a family make it through Thanksgiving and Christmas?  The Salvation Army of Summit County is just one of many area organizations and churches who step in to make the holidays a little brighter for needy families.  But they are the only area organization to operate as a clearinghouse for these families, working with other organizations to ensure that each family receives the help they need without duplicating local charitable efforts.

According to Cheryl Knerien, Christmas Program Coordinator for The Salvation Army, the goal is to make sure that every family who needs assistance can receive it.  "We know that every organization needs to be fiscally responsible for their dollars.  By using this clearinghouse, we can help each agency stretch their assistance dollars to help those who need it most," she said.
