Ultrasound Liposuction surgery at Harley Body Clinic

Ultrasonic liposuction is regarded as the third generation liposuction technique. The technique utilizes ultrasound waves to emit through a liposuction cannula and vibrate into stubborn fat cells by melting it into a liquid before the suction.

LONDON - Nov. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Vaser Liposuction is the predominant equipment to perform ultrasound liposuction. The brand Vaser is manufactured by Sound Surgical Technologies LLC, Colorado. Other types of equipments are Vaser Hi Def Liposuction or liposculpture, Vaser Mid Def Liposculpture and non-surgical liposuction.

History

Liposuction has been a well circulated cosmetic surgical procedure since the mid 1980s with Tumescent Liposuction. Ultrasound was extensively used for radiology and sonography imaging purposes, when many physicians noticed and indicated that the ultrasonic waves have an effect of melting down subcutaneous fat.

Ultrasonic Liposuction was first proposed in the 1990s, by Italian plastic surgeon Michele Zoochi.  Researchers started developing Ultrasound Assisted Liposuction (UAL) techniques in the late 1980s.  Initially the technique experienced mixed results with first and second generation UAL. Occasional overexposure of the ultrasound radiation resulting in tissue damage; bruising and scarring

The third generation UAL technology was developed in the late 1990s that overcame the limitations of traditional tumescent liposuction and the previous generations of the UAL.

VASER

Vaser which abbreviates from Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance is the brand name of third generation UAL equipments developed by Sound Surgical Technologies, LLC, in Lafayette, Colorado, United States. Dr. William Cimino is credited for developing the Vaser workstation, and also for the foundation of Sound Surgical Technologies, where he holds the position of chairman.

The Vaser workstation delivers pulsed radiations of sound waves through the specially designed probes that vibrate into the fat cells without causing harm to surrounding nerves and collagen. The controlled resonant frequencies prevent the overexposure of the ultrasound radiation and the subsequent risks.

Vaser Hi Def liposculpture procedure involves liposuction using ultrasound around muscles groups such as the chest and abdominal area, hips and flanks, upper back, breast, bra roll, arms, mal pec, glutes and legs. The Vaser Hi Def probes can target more superficial layers of fat in specific regions that creates grooves in the muscle to appear as six packs and other muscular definitions.

Candidacy

Ideal candidates for ultrasound liposuction are those in general good health and near 2stones/ 15kilos/ 28lbs their ideal body weight.

Procedure

Ultrasound liposuction or Vaser Liposuction procedure is minimally invasive and can be done on an outpatient basis under tumescent anaesthesia which is injected in the treatable area for numbing and shrinking the blood vessels to control the amount of blood loss. A number of 1-1.5mm incisions are made as the specialised ultrasound assisted microcannula is inserted in the skin that is slim and very flexible to avoid surrounding nerves from damage. The ultrasonic waves vibrate and melt the fat down into a buttery liquid till the deep layers of skin fat. The plastic surgeon would still have to move the cannula back and forth and the procedure looks much as the traditional liposuction, but the ultrasonic cannula makes all the difference by melting down the fat. Once the plastic surgeon is satisfied with melting the fat down completely then it is aspirated out via the suction tube same as all other procedures.

Recovery

Ultrasound Liposuction (http://www.harleybodyclinic.co.uk) usually has a downtime of 7-10days which may be longer till two weeks in case of a large volume liposuction of 4-5liters of fat removal. Strenuous movement and exercises are advised against by surgeons for a month after the procedure. Mild and moderate exercise like light walking may be resumed within two weeks.

The patient is most likely to feel little or heightened pain and discomfort during the first night after an ultrasound liposuction surgery as the anaesthetics wear off. The plastic surgeon usually prescribes medicines for the pain. Compression garments are to be worn for all time during the first day after surgery and for prolonged time for several days after the surgery for support and proper healing.

Risks

There have not been any serious complications associated with the third generation ultrasound liposuction, notably Vaser Liposuction. But since being a minimally invasive surgical procedure, there still involves some potential risks such as bruising; blood loss; prolonged swelling; allergic reactions to the anaesthetics and deterred results.
