More than 700 students from Grove Park, Lake Park and Marsh Pointe Elementary Schools enthusiastically applauded the musical presentation conducted by Dr. Clark McAllister. "The Palm Beach Pops ‘Music & You’ Youth Education Program is expanding to reach more children in Palm Beach County,” said Ms. Laurent-Ottomane. “As part of the program, the Pops musicians and conductor travel from school to school to offer students a closer look at what makes up an orchestra, teaching a combination of science and math concepts, and to developing listening skills through music. The program provides a comprehensive introduction to music and is benchmarked to Florida State Standards. The “Music & You” In-School Youth Education Program was founded by the late Maestro Bob Lappin who believed that all children deserve the chance to benefit from meaningful arts experiences. Designed to benefit underserved school districts, the four-week program has reached nearly 90,000 elementary school students over the past 15 years, and will be coming to several South County schools in Spring 2015. "Music & You” incorporates performances by members of The Palm Beach Pops Orchestra, each week highlighting one of the four families of instruments – Brass, Woodwinds, Strings, and Percussion. The Palm Beach Pops provides the curriculum, including study materials for the students, in addition to the orchestra performances and bussing the students to the concert, at no cost to the schools involved. All funds for the program are contributed by generous supporters of The Palm Beach Pops’ Music & You program. The Palm Beach Pops 2014/15 season will be led by Grammy and Emmy award winning Music Director and Principal Conductor Lee Musiker. On December 14, the Pops will welcome the 10-time Grammy award winning vocal group, The Manhattan Transfer, along with other special guests for a one-night-only holiday spectacular. In January 2015, Frank Sinatra Jr. pays homage to his father’s 100 years, singing and bringing the original music scores that define the Sinatra legend. And in March 2015, The Palm Beach Pops will perform One Singular Sensation: A Tribute to the Music of Marvin Hamlisch, starring Tony Award Winner Donna McKechnie, the original Cassie in A Chorus Line, Tony Award Nominee Jodi Benson, the voice of The Little Mermaid, and Doug LaBrecque (Phantom of the Opera), a frequent soloist with Marvin Hamlisch.
