Gay, Progressive Fraternity Producing 25th Drag Fundraiser

DAVIS, Calif. - Nov. 30, 2014 - PRLog -- The Xi Chapter of Delta Lambda Phi, a fraternity for gay, bisexual, and progressive men, will be presenting the 25th annual "Davis is Burning" drag show and competition on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at the UC Davis Wright Theatre.  Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Trevor Project, the leading national organization focused on suicide prevention among LGBTQ youth.

Inspired by the ground-breaking documentary "Paris is Burning," the fraternity's first drag show was held in Fall 1990--the same year Xi Chapter was chartered at UC Davis--in a member's basement.  Over the past quarter-centery, the drag show has grown tremendously, becoming one of the community's most highly anticipated events.

"I invite our community to our 25th 'Davis is Burning' drag show," says Xi Chapter Vice President Jim De Ocampo, the event coordinator.  "This celebration of gender expression is sure to be a fabulous night of entertainment!"

The program includes: a dragtastic fashion show; dance and music numbers by the Chapter brothers and Sacramento's popular drag queens; and the open drag competion to determine the reigning Drag King and Queen.  While dressing in drag is not a requirement, attendees are still encouraged to dress up and participate in the open drag competition.  Security management for the event has received “Safezone Training” and all security personnel briefed on providing a safe and respectful event space.  More information can be found at the event website: http://www.davisisburning.com.

Attendees may purchase tickets: pre-sold at the UC Davis Ticket Office and http://tickets.ucdavis.edu for $10.00; or at the door for $14.00 with discounts of $1.00 off for students and/or $2.00 off when dressed in drag.

Delta Lambda Phi Social Fraternity has provided social, service and recreational activities for gay, bisexual and progressive since it’s founding in 1986. In 1990, the Xi Chapter was formally chartered for the UC Davis community and has grown to be a recognized leader in civic service and activism, celebrating its 25th anniversary during the 2014-2015 academic calendar. The Chapter is a registered student organization of the UC Davis Center for Student Involvement and member of the Davis Inter-Fraternity Council.
