INDIANAPOLIS - Nov. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- American College of Education today announced Randy Davis has joined its leadership team as the Chief Information Officer. American College of Education is a mission-driven online college that provides advanced degree programs specifically for educators.

Davis is a nationally recognized leader in the field of information technology and has served on multiple information technology advisory boards including the Salesforce CIO Council, Advisory Board, and Executive Summit; the midTECH Steering Committee; the Ektron Customer Advisory Board; the BOX CIO summit; the DocuSign Executive Advisory Council; and the Indiana Business Council. Additionally, Davis is an ACICS certified instructor and has served as a guest lecturer at Butler University and as a Department Chair for National College.

Prior to joining American College of Education, Davis served as Chief Information Officer of Author Solutions, a Penguin Random House Company with offices in five cities. At Author Solutions, Davis led the global information technology, technical product management, and enterprise program management groups, as well as all operational IT support services for media and publishing services encompassing sales, service, and fulfillment.

“We are excited to have Randy Davis join our team,” said Interim President Shawntel Landry. “With Randy’s impressive background and his own commitment to lifelong learning, we anticipate that he will continue to build American College of Education’s IT infrastructure and lead us to where we need to be as we strive to provide the best possible learning experience for our students.”

Davis aims to provide continuous improvements and seamless integration of systems for students, faculty, and staff. He notes that by improving all technology systems, the college can more effectively achieve its goal of providing a high quality education at a realistic cost and extending educational opportunity to teachers and other service-oriented professionals.

“I reached a stage in my career where I wanted to give back,” Davis said. “Technology is so empowering—there should be no financial or geographic barriers to education. Earning a degree should never put students in the poor house, especially in a field like teaching that does so much for the community. I really believe in that. There is no reason to burden students with debt for years if you can leverage technology to keep costs down and quality up. In my view, the experience should always get better every day.”

Davis’s role as an instructor in particular has influenced his decision to join American College of Education, especially as he has witnessed firsthand some of the challenges of working and learning remotely across the globe. He seeks to use technology to address many of these common issues as he studies the student life cycle.

“Our students do not live in an insular environment, so understanding the tyranny of life and juggling multiple demands for your time and attention is critical,” Davis said. “We all must understand the challenges students go through. We do not want to create any artificial barriers.”

Prior to his work at Author Solutions, Davis held executive IT and systems development roles at companies in the manufacturing, e-commerce, and software development sectors. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Organizational Behavior from the University of California at Los Angeles.
