BOSTON - Nov. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- Alan Nawoj, the 2013 winner of the Antarctica Marathon, recently broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest aggregate time for any man to complete a marathon on each of Earth’s seven continents, announced Boston-based Marathon Tours & Travel, the organizer of the Antarctica Marathon and founder of the Seven Continents Club.

Nawoj’s arduous feat was achieved between April 9, 2006, and April 13, 2014, with a total time of 21 hours, 55 minutes and 2 seconds. Chris Solarz of New York, NY, previously held the record (22:14:08).

Both men have earned podium finishes at the grueling Antarctica Marathon – Nawoj’s victory in 2013 (3:29:56) and Solarz with a runner-up finish in 2011 (3:32:12).

Nawoj has finished 22 marathons; however, for world record purposes he submitted finish times for the following races: the Paris Marathon (Europe), Singapore Marathon (Asia), New York City Marathon (North America), Rio de Janeiro Marathon (South America), Antarctica Marathon (Antarctica), Marrakech Marathon (Africa) and the Canberra Marathon (Australia). His fastest time amongst the seven marathons was the New York City Marathon in which Nawoj finished in 2:52:27.

“As a lifelong runner I've always enjoyed setting big goals for myself and testing the limits of my capabilities,” said Nawoj.  “I set a goal for myself to complete a marathon on each of the seven continents. When I learned about the Guinness World Record for the fastest combined marathon times on seven continents, I wanted to break the record, to push my own limits as a runner and to show thanks to my family and friends who have supported my running goals over the years.”

The inaugural Antarctica Marathon in 1995 made it possible for runners to conquer a marathon on all of Earth's seven continents. In recognition of those runners who have achieved this amazing feat, Marathon Tours & Travel established the Seven Continents Club. To-date, more than 540 men and women have finished marathons on all seven continents.

“Alan personifies many of those in the Seven Continents Club,” says Thom Gilligan, president of Marathon Tours & Travel and race director of the Antarctica Marathon & Half Marathon. He set a lofty goal, worked hard to reach it and loved the adventure every step of the way.”
