Paso Robles-Based Propane Company Reduces Fuel Emissions by 30%

PASO ROBLES, Calif. - Nov. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- Propane motorfuel provider ARRO Autogas (http://www.arroautogas.com/), a division of Paso Robles-based propane marketer Delta Liquid Energy, earned the designation of a Sustainability All Star (http://www.greenfleetmagazine.com/list/tag/sustainability-all-stars.aspx) at the 2014 Green Fleet Conference & Expo on October 30, 2014, in Schaumburg, IL.

Delta Liquid Energy’s ARRO Autogas department stood out among national fleets as a Sustainability All Star for several reasons. Most significantly, the company reduced its fuel emissions by 30 percent by running 48 vehicles on propane autogas, an EPA and CARB certified alternative fuel that emits 12 percent less carbon dioxide, about 20 percent less nitrogen oxide, and up to 60 percent less carbon monoxide than gasoline-powered vehicles.

“I have been attending Green Fleet conference for the past three years and have seen how this award has grown,” says ARRO Market Manager Ted Olsen. “I am honored that ARRO is a part of this elite group in the U.S. that is leading the fleet industry as environmental stewards.”

Recognizing fleet professionals throughout the nation who have demonstrated significant contributions to environmental sustainability and fleet efficiencies in the industry, the fourth annual Green Fleet award program selected 42 fleets nationwide for the award based on four criteria: Longevity (time in the fleet industry dedicated to sustainability efforts); Accomplishments (examples of recent, significant sustainability achievements); Innovation (innovative ways individuals have contributed to reducing emissions and fuel consumption); and Industry Involvement (involvement in industry-wide efforts to promote sustainable fleet solutions).

“Delta Liquid Energy and ARRO Autogas not only support, but also promote this green, American-made, clean-burning fuel source - with a focus on sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint that extends into our offices and beyond,” Olsen says.

For example, Delta Liquid Energy and ARRO Autogas initiated a recycling program at the corporate office after Olsen determined that 90 percent of the trash that was being thrown in the dumpster—including lunch bags, loose papers, receipts, paper coffee cups and plastic—could be recycled. The company now provides recycle bins at every desk at the corporate office and has cut its landfill waste production in half. Additionally, Delta Liquid Energy and ARRO Autogas also began utilizing a shredding company to recycle all of their shredded materials.

“Since the recycling program is free, and because we now require garbage truck service half as often as before, we are reducing emissions and landfill waste while saving money for the company,” summarizes Olsen.

He says the goal is to transition all ten Delta Liquid Energy offices throughout the company to the recycling program by the end of 2014.

Finally, Delta Liquid Energy and ARRO Autogas were also highlighted as Sustainability All Stars as a result of Olsen’s work as Chairman of Western Propane Gas Association’s Clean Fuels Committee. His efforts on the board have included initiating propane autogas vehicle road shows to help spread the word about the environmental benefits of propane autogas as a clean, efficient, high-performing and cost-effective fleet fuel choice.

The Green Fleet Conference & Expo is the nation’s largest, most influential gathering of fleet management professionals in the nation. Whether a light- to heavy-duty fleet, this fleet-focused event concentrates on cutting fuel costs, reducing fleet emissions and finding funding for green projects, as well as how to cost-effectively implement alternative technologies like CNG, propane, electric and biofuels.
