The story is amazing. The Sinking of the SS Arabic and The TSS Hesperian. The SS Arabic commanded by Captain William Finch left Liverpool Wednesday afternoon August 18, 1915 en route to New York City.

These ships were secretly designated as gold carriers by the British government. Each had successfully been documented to complete multiple secret voyages carrying gold on behalf of banks and governments in order to finance the war effort.

On August 19, 1915 the Arabic was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-24 under the command of Kapitanleutnant Rudolf Schneider off the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland. She went down in 9 minutes with the loss of 44 lives; 380 were saved.

The TSS Hesperian left Liverpool for Quebec and then Montreal on September 4th, 1915.

The German submarine U-20 of the Imperial German Navy under the command of the 30-year old Kapitanleutnant Walther Schwieger was about 85 miles off of Fastnet Rock, Ireland, on the evening of September 4th, 1915.

Schwieger sighted Hesperian steaming at full speed just hours after the ocean liner had left Liverpool. Schwieger fired a single torpedo at his target.

The Hesperian sank over a day after being torpedoed on September 6th, 1915, while being towed to Ireland, very close to where the SS Arabic sank.

The governmental and public outcry over the sinkings of these passenger liners caused headlines globally. The press concentrated their stories on Germany's heinous, deliberate and unlawful sinking passenger ships.

Very little was ever mentioned about the 55 Tons of Gold Coins sunk within the secret storage confines of these vessels.

That mystery remained a secret for 90 years...until now.
