CLACKAMAS, Ore. - Nov. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- The WiMAX Forum® recently concluded its November Summit Series, hosting pre-conference events in North America, Africa and Asia within the span of one week. Each of the events shared a similar goal – the advancement of wireless networks for specific markets within the global WiMAX community.

WiMAX Oil & Gas was a well-attended, pre-conference session at OilComm in Houston, Texas. Held on November 5, the day-long session focused on supporting the Oil & Gas market in the deployment of effective and affordable networks. Topics included industrial applications such as SCADA, WiMAX system Case Studies, as well as pending FCC changes for spectrum usage and how it might impact the industry. The WiMAX Forum is currently lobbying to preserve the 3.65 GHz band as a usable spectrum for the Oil & Gas market.

The WiMAX Forum would like to thank speakers from the following companies: CelPlan Technologies, Chevron USA, GE Digital Energy, JTS, Keller and Heckman, Powertech Labs, Select Spectrum, Siemens, Synkro Southwest LLC, and Telrad Networks.

The second event, WiMAX Africa, was hosted in Cape Town, South Africa. The day-long, interactive Operator summit was held on November 10 with nine WiMAX operators in attendance. The main topic of discussion was WiMAX Advanced implementations in Africa, and how profitable, multi-technology networks have been successfully rolled out with the co-existence of WiMAX and either Wi-Fi, Small Cells and/or LTE technologies. The main event sponsors were Alepo and CelPlan.

The WiMAX Forum would like to thank the following companies for providing speakers: Airspan, Alepo, Canar, CelPlan Technologies, DiscoveryTel, GTI Global, MagnaQuest, Mercury  Networks, MicroTeck Enterprises, Nokia Networks, SimbaNET, Teleconda, Telrad Networks, uMAX, Wireless 20/20, and World Bank IFC.  The WiMAX Forum is exploring a cooperative partnership with the World Bank IFC—along with local operators, uMAX and MicroTeck—to increase investments in operators across the region.

The final event in the series, WiMAX Aviation 2014-Sendai, was held on November 11-12 in Sendai, Japan. The Forum hosted a special AeroMACS field tour of the ENRI lab in the Sendai Airport. The purpose of the event was to support the global aviation community, sharing knowledge and best practices for building best-in-class AeroMACS networks. The event was collocated with the ICAO WG-S Meeting on November 13-14. The main event sponsors were Hitachi, Gemtek, Modacom, Shinsei Corporation, and CelPlan Technologies.

The WiMAX Forum would like to thank the following organizations for participating in WiMAX Aviation 2014 – Sendai including: ADCC, Airtel ATN, CelPlan Technologies, ConvergEX Technologies, ENRI Japan, EUROCONTROL, FAA, Gemtek, Hitachi, Honeywell, ICAO, JCAB, NASA, Selex ES, Siemens, Symantec Corporation, and Thales Communications.

Said WiMAX Forum President, Declan Byrne, “These three events were constructed to allow the WiMAX community to network, share key lessons and work together for the benefit of the wireless industry.  Our goal was to provide unique opportunities for knowledge-sharing in each of these key markets. We’re confident that we have succeeded, and the results will accompany our members well into the future.”
