Samsung Ensures You Have Enough Memory

Nov. 20, 2014 - PRLog -- Add more space to your devices with a Samsung memory card

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, November 20, 2014, Samsung Electronics, the number one manufacturer of memory technology, has announced the local availability of its new memory card line-up, which features Standard, EVO and PRO versions of all its SD cards and microSD cards. The range covers a diverse set of requirements for both general and professional users and provides remarkable performance and reliability, ensuring exceptional storage for a variety of memory needs.

“With the shift towards consumers using more smart devices, the need for further memory space has never been more prevalent, whether users have a phone, a tablet or a camera, adding more memory to a device has become easier. Samsung’s memory cards are reliable and easy to use and provide a simple solution for one’s storage demands. They are able to capture a large number of photos as well as download media files and apps to a mobile device. Samsung offers the fastest, large-capacity (64GB) microSD cards for those who seek both high capacity and speed,” says Mike van Lier, Divisional Head of the Enterprise Business Team (EBT) at Samsung Electronics SA.

Van Lier highlights the following as key points to consider before deciding to invest in a memory card:

Investigate which memory cards are compatible with your device

Memory cards come in two categories: SD cards and microSD cards. The microSD card is smaller and ideal for smartphones, tablets and mobile devices, while SD cards are used in digital cameras and camcorders. However, the full range of microSD cards are supplied with a SD adapter for use in full sized SD slot devices. In addition to choosing the correct size, it is also important to ensure the memory card is compatible with your device, in terms of class rate and transfer speed, to secure the highest performance.

Keep in mind how much data needs to be stored

For regular users taking pictures of daily life, a 16/32GB memory card is recommended. However, a professional photographer should use a 32/64GB from the EVO or PRO lines. First choice when it comes to high quality video, is a 32GB Class 10 or above, from the EVO or PRO Lines, which also supports Full HD Video recording, while for mobile devices the 16GB and above is sufficient.

Memory cards have different speeds

The memory card’s read / write speed impacts the device’s performance and the following challenges can occur when a memory card does not have enough speed to support the performance capability of the host device: the camera’s shutter malfunctions when taking active photos of people running using the Burst mode; video is slow and lags when trying to watch a movie on the memory card of the smartphone; and downloading a video from YouTube takes longer on the memory card of a 4G LTE mobile device.

It is vital to insert a memory card with the proper read / write speed for your device, which entails first checking the speed class and transfer speed when purchasing a memory card.

“Samsung will continue to develop memory solutions that provide innovative and transformative technologies which give people the power to discover new experiences and possibilities,” concludes van Lier.
