Nov. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- The region offers companies prepared to invest in such projects with the chance to develop commercial activities in some of Asia’s most promising markets such as Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia. As Asia’s most important market China has undergone a drastic slowdown in wine imports due to severe austerity measures, many international importers have started shifting their bases to Singapore to develop markets in the SE Asia region. The wineries from Montalcino that are financing the project will bring in buyers from neighbouring countries and will also have the chance to meet trade and press from Singapore, a market which is estimated will grow by 10% between 2013 and 2017. In 2017, it is expected to have reached a growth rate of 40% between 2008 and 2017 (source IWSR) and neighbouring countries show even more favourable growth forecasts. It seems obvious therefore that a market such as Singapore that expands 4.6 times more than the global average offers extraordinary possibilities for the companies of Montalcino.

Besides the activities planned for 20th November including B2B meetings with SE Asian buyers, a Masterclass for press and trade, a seminar on the wines of the area for Horeca and a walk-around tasting, the wineries will also host a glamorous evening at the residence of the Italian Ambassador on 21st November. The red carpet will be rolled out not only for the city’s VIPs but also for Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, the jewel in the crown of Tuscan wine-making.

The project is organised by Cooperativa La Spiga, as association of farmers and wine producers that was founded in the 1950s. This is the second event in 2014 aimed at promoting the member wineries’ products on foreign markets, the first being participation at Sao Paolo’s Expovinis fair in April.

The event on 20th November, focusing on the history, terroir and wine of Montalcino will take place at the Hilton Hotel and is open from 3pm to 6pm for press and trade.

Wineries participating in the project include: Armilla, Capanna, Caprili, Collemattoni, La Fornace, La Magia, La Rasina, La Serena, Lazzeretti, Mastrojanni and Palazzo.
