LOS ANGELES - Nov. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- Actors Dean Cameron and Richard Horvitz, stars from the 1989 movie Summer School, just wrapped filming the pilot as the leads on The Comeback Kids in Los Angeles, California. The comedic web series is a creation of Ryan Paul James, a celebrated writer, known for the stage plays “Lost in Radioland,” “The World’s Worst Play Ever,” and “Desperately Seeking Love” among others. He has also hosted and written for TV shows.

The Comeback Kids highlights the story of two former child actors. Even though they are still working in show business, they are still reaching for their big breakout roles as adults. Richard Horvitz, who actually was a child actor, plays Richie Eisenberg. Dean Cameron, who was a teenage star, plays Gary Fischer. They deal with some of the typical things that former child stars have to deal with such as finding more acting jobs and handling fans fixated on their childhood personalities.

James has assembled a unique cast of actors for the pilot episode including award-winning Keith Coogan (Snuffy Bradberry on Toy Soldiers), Golden Globe nominated actor Gavin MacLeod (Captain on The Love Boat), and Bernie Kopell (Doctor on The Love Boat, Opel Driver in the 2008 Get Smart). While MacLeod and Kopell play fictional characters, Coogan plays himself. Additionally, Erin Murphy, the child star, Tabitha, from Bewitched plays herself. Meanwhile, Melissa Disney (Ginger Foutley on As Told By Ginger) appears as a crazed, desperately lost in the ‘80s fan. Scott Schwartz (Flick on A Christmas Story) performs in the pilot as well in a scene with MacLeod. Part of the unique mix and chemistry of the show is how the story mixes fact with fiction.

Future episodes will include Aileen Quinn, who played the endearing orphan Annie in 1982, a part that earned her the Best Young Motion Picture Actress award. Mariette Hartley (The Incredible Hulk, 1982, Emmy-winning performance) will also appear in a future episode. The list of actors grew from a handful of people to cast of over 20 characters practically overnight. James attributes the attraction to one simple reason – these former child actors still love to act. Lark Voorhies, Sally Struthers, and Eve Plumb are slated to entertain in future episodes.

Ryan Paul James, who raised funding for The Comeback Kids on Indiegogo, indicates that several networks are interested in the project. “The combination of nostalgia and family-friendly content makes our project a contender for a wider demographic.” The pilot episode is expected to release early 2015.
