MOTERWRITER.COM reviews the latest hit novel – Dark Sea

Author Wendy Shreve’s mystery novel invokes the supernatural and the contemporary to thrill you

KOCHI, India - Nov. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- Wendy Shreve’s new novel, ‘Dark Sea’ is the sequel to the highly successful first book ‘Shadowwater’. Taking off after a year since the incidents described in the first book occur; this novel brings back all the major players and introduces a few new ones. Lili Ribault, the highly successful author of supernatural stories is now leading a quiet and existentialist life trying to come to terms with her alternate identity. Meanwhile her soul mate Cal Green struggles to find a balance between his love for her and helping her find herself. And when a couple of outsiders are thrown into this mix with their insatiable greed and varied interests in the myth of the land; Cape Cod needs quite a few heroes to help save the day.

Striking the right balance between the drama, romance and passion, Dark Sea also provides great insight into the cultureand mysticism of the Native American tribe Nausequoit. And the author has infused such elements and blended it nicely with the general mystery feel of the book. This novel also stands out from the rest by shedding light on the often neglected interactions between the various native tribes and the white man. The author also provides adequate back stories for each of her characters which blend in nicely with the main narrative. The seagulls, the beaches, the waves and the tides of Cape Cod are also a character unto themselves, often reflecting the mood of the various characters. There are many scenes which portray the author’s brilliant control over her craft, for example readers may refer to the scene in Rusty’s boat and the house party at Kip’s house when all the characters come together and yet each character’s uniqueness has been allowed to shine through resulting in some finely crafted scenes. Then the final couple of scenes, including Lili’s and Janice’s ‘encounter’ and the scene with Halifax and Rusty are all perfect culmination of a novel that has managed to keep your interest on stranglehold for so long.

“Continuing from where the story let off at the end of ‘Shadowwater’, ‘Dark Sea’ moves forward by showing the characters grappling with the changes in their lives”. Wendy told us when we interviewed her in connection with the book’s promotion. When we spoke to a few readers who had already finished reading the book, they said that even though they had only just discovered this author, they found a lot of substance in her stories, as well as her imagination. They added that the love interest shown in the book has a lot of depth to it and that they truly enjoyed this book. Kevin Peter who reviewed the book for Moterwriter.com said that the book had a lot of suspense and is a fun story that is quick to read, believable and is a great way to spend some quality hours. He added that ‘Dark Sea’ had a motley mix of highly interesting characters with rich and complex back stories and called it the perfect addition to the series.
