STIR Journal Announces New Features

STIR Journal is pleased to introduce Young STIR and My STIR, two new features designed to encourage participation by teen writers, and readers of all ages.
Nov. 19, 2014 - PRLog -- Since its March 17 launch, STIR has published weekly essays, interviews, and videos that address current issues in a provocative yet professional manner.

Young STIR is a new opportunity for teens who wish to see their work in reputable publications. In collaboration with The Advice Project, STIR will offer fresh perspectives on important global issues by publishing teen op-eds and essays.

"Our goal is to lift and amplify the voices of teens by preparing them as citizen-journalists," said The Advice Project's founder, Melissa Banigan. "We want to teach them not just to write well, but to pitch ideas and experience the editorial process." Read the first Young STIR piece by Sam J. Valentine.

Submissions to Young STIR are open to all teens who write.

My STIR is a place for readers to share personal stories as they relate to weekly features — through photos, brief essays, or videos.

"STIR wants to give readers an opportunity to participate beyond the comments section of each article," said Jonna Ivin, STIR's founder. "We'd like to build a sense of community by highlighting real, human experiences relevant to the topics we cover." Read contributions by Anna Fonté and Jaquel Pitts.
