LOS ANGELES - Nov. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Elliott Broidy’s 2014 partnership with the Early Investigator High School Program (EIHS) in conjunction with University of Southern California (USC) allowed a rare opportunity for budding scientists to explore the cutting-edge field of stem cell science through a summer internship program.  Specifically, Broidy funded scholarships to enable gifted youth from disadvantaged situations to attend the summertime EIHS.

The EiHS Research Internship Program was such a success that the program will be continued in 2015. Applications for the 2015 program have recently opened so hopeful participants are encouraged to start the process. Eligible students can apply to one of two courses, an eight-week research internship program or ten-day laboratory techniques course.  The course dates are for 2015 are June 15th – 26th and July 6th – 17th.

EiHS delivers comprehensive training in both stem cell theory and practice through the combined use of laboratory and classroom based teaching methods More than 20 students receive hands-on training and mentorship at the USC Stem Cell Core facility and research laboratories. These students also attend weekly forums, which provide a foundation in the ethical and political issues relating to stem cell science and regenerative medicine.

Stem cell banking is growing in popularity in the United States and research proves the cells have regenerative properties useful in developing cures to combat cancer, blood disorders, immune disorders and metabolic disorders, amongst others.  IHS leadership hopes to make the field of stem cell research accessible to all since it is imperative to the evolution of healthcare.
