EXCELSIOR, Minn. - Nov. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- In its 98-year history, there have been hundreds of weddings, celebrations and family gatherings at the Minnetonka Country Club, the final event in its storied hisotry will include former lead singers of iconic bands Boston and Santana and Minnesota singer songwriter Tim Mahoney.. In October, the country club announced that it will not renew memberships in 2015 and it will likely be leveled for a new housing development. Fifteen Twin Cities metro area golf courses and country clubs have shuttered their doors and sold off the property for development since 2005. The situation is part of a national downturn in interest in playing the sport of golf.

This final event, a rock concert for charity, will give members a chance to say goodbye and is also open to the public for one last round of memories in this historic Lake Minnetonka venue.

Alex Ligertwood, the lead singer for Santana from 1979-1994 and Fran Cosmo, lead singer for Boston from 1990-2005 are coming to Excelsior, MN on Friday November 28th to sing classic rock hits, honor friends who passed away recently and to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer research at the University of Minnesota. The concert will be held at the Minnetonka Country Club from 7-10:30 pm on Friday November 28th.

Ligertwood, an avid golfer,  is no stranger to Minnesota, as he has performed in the annual Pancreatic Cancer concert in the past. The cause has united other rock legends as well who have converged to Excelsior, MN the last two years. This third annual benefit concert also features Fran Cosmo, former lead singer of Boston from 1990-2005.  When flight arrangements were being made for Cosmo, who lives in New York and Ligertwood, who lives in California, they both compromised Thanksgiving with their families to arrive in Minnesota a day earlier to sound check and better prepare for this musical event.

Those attending will hear the classic hits that Ligertwood sang lead for Santana such as “Black Magic Woman”, “Winning”, “Evil Ways”. “Oye Como Va” “Hold On” and more. Fran Cosmo will sign lead on Boston classics "Livin' for You", “More Then a Feeling”, "Walk On" “Peace of Mind”, “Long Time” and more.  Minnesota singer-songwriter Tim Mahoney will also perform at this event. The charity concert is sponsored by JJR Power, a solar development and finance company based in Excelsior, MN.
