Follow on Google News | New iPad app helps vulnerable seniors avoid online predators, scams, phishing and spamMany seniors are confused by technology and this may lead to frustration and can leave them vulnerable to online scams, phishing and other dangers. A new app called Simplicity Center helps make the Internet safer and the iPad experience simpler.
By: UX West LLC Simplicity Center helps make the Internet safe for seniors with age-related challenges including memory loss or dementia. It helps protect seniors from online predators, scams, phishing and spam, and makes staying in touch with loved ones and friends easy and fun. Details are available at SimplicityCenter.com. According to a Dec. 23, 2013 Wall Street Journal post, financial scammers are increasingly targeting the elderly: "The fleecing of older Americans is becoming an epidemic. People 60 years and older made up 26% of all fraud complaints tracked by the Federal Trade Commission in 2012, the highest of any age group…One in every five Americans age 65 or older has been abused financially." Simplicity Center is designed for a loved one, friend or caregiver to act as the administrator and set up the features to meet the specific needs of the user. If the administrator restricts the user using iPad’s built-in Guided Access feature, then the entire online experience is handled through the app, allowing controlled access to email and the web. This limits the user’s exposure to unwanted and sometimes predatory email and websites. Simplicity Center is like four apps in one, including email, a web browser, an address book and a calendar. Each of the four features has been simplified to provide a less confusing and frustrating experience for older users. More information is available at the Simplicity Center website. End
