The Only Way is Essex for Oversized Shark

ST ANDREWS, Scotland - Nov. 14, 2014 - PRLog -- A Black Tip Reef Shark at St Andrews Aquarium, Sheila, has been transported this week to a new home after becoming too big for her tank. The Fife Aquarium team said a fin-al farewell to their carnivorous friend on November 10th when Sheila was ‘caught’ by a specialist team, lifted from her tank before making a 486 mile journey to what will now be her new home at Sealife Adventure at Southend on Sea in Essex.

St Andrews Aquarium are now redeveloping Sheila’s tank and welcoming a number of Smooth-hound Sharks and Rays for people to visit.

Now a formidable 1.2 metres long, Sheila has been a favourite of visitors to the aquarium since arriving as a baby shark in 2011 when she was just 40cm long. Her gradual growth has meant she now requires a larger tank which Sealife Adventure at Southend on Sea has, along with a tunnel for Sheila to explore.

Both aquarium teams are also hoping that Sheila gets on swimmingly with two other Black Tip Reef Sharks that she will be living with at her new home.

John Mace, Manager of St Andrews Aquarium said:

“We are very sad to have said goodbye to Sheila. She has been a great addition to the Aquarium and has brought a lot of pleasure to visitors in the past 3 years. We are sure she will continue to have a lot of fun at her new home at Sealife Adventure. We are delighted to be introducing some new additions to the aquarium over the winter months and I’m sure the Smooth-hound Sharks and Rays will be equally as popular as Sheila and attracting plenty of visitors in the future.”
