LOS ANGELES - Nov. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- November, 2014 (LOS ANGELES, Calif.) – Children Uniting Nations’ annual “Day of the Child,” hosted by Founder Daphna Edwards Ziman with actor Miguel A. Nunez, will be held on Sunday, November 16, 2014  from 11am – 4pm, at the La Brea Tar Pits, 5801 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90036.  “Day of the Child” is designed to bring awareness to and support the needs of children who are living in and out of foster home care.

The primary goal of the day is to secure “long-term” mentors for these very special children.  This year we will bring together 500 youth living in foster care throughout the Los Angeles metropolitan area and 500 community volunteers (Mentors) for a day of fun in a carnival like atmosphere.  Each child is matched with a mentor for the day that has been recruited by our staff from Corporate Partners, Local Colleges, Universities and Community Organizations.

The event helps to create wonderful memories and special friendships for children living in foster care.    Mentees and Mentors enjoy the following activities throughout the amazing day:

·         Inter-active Team Building Activities

·         Live Entertainment

·         Carnival Rides

·         Celebrity Appearances

·         Game Booths

·         Dance Contests

·         Variety of Food and Drink Options

·         Foster Youth Gift Bags

This special time together provides the opportunity for the children to bond with their mentors to create life-long relationships.  Each child will go home with a care package which includes blankets, clothes and other items assembled into a My Stuff Bag.

Children Uniting Nations would like to thank the following companies for their generous product donations: Coca-Cola, My Stuff Bags, Factor’s Famous Deli, Art of Periodontics, Samira Kazemeni, GoGo Squeez, All Love Always Charity.

“The Day of the Child is a special day for the foster youth involved and all of the wonderful volunteers and staff who have generously donated their time and love to bring this event to life,” said John Fagerholm, Chairman of CUN.  “As a former foster child, I personally know how much this means to the thousands of children who do not have many opportunities to participate in events thrown in their honor.  This is a day for them to see how much people care about them and that they are not disposable.  It was a similar day to this that made me realize my circumstances were temporary and that I had an entire adult life that I could live as I wanted and contribute positively to society. Programs like Day of the Child give these ignored and forgotten children a ray of hope.”
