StoryWall - Augmented Reality wallpaper for children

GRONINGEN, Netherlands - Nov. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Groningen, the Netherlands (November 13th, 2014) – Studio Bleep,  a young and innovative game studio run by two ladies, proudly announces its first Kickstarter campaign for the interactive storytelling wall “StoryWall”, going through to December 11 2014.

StoryWall

StoryWall is a creative augmented reality game which uses wallpaper prints to create an  engaging storytelling experience for children. StoryWall offers a new way of playing,  experimenting and creating personal stories with a lot of interaction. It is a combination of wall decorations (wall stickers, wallpaper, posters) and a mobile application that makes use of  augmented reality. “With StoryWall, we combine the real world with the digital world and make stories come to life”, says co-owner Rieneke Schaap.

StoryWall is a fun way to entertain children, but this is not the main reason for the game. “We want StoryWall to be lots of fun, of course.”, explains co-owner Merel van der Wees. “We also want to provide a game which stimulates the creativity and imagination of children.” Because of the endless interaction possibilities of the wall designs, StoryWall also lets children tell a  different story every time.

StoryWall is a big interactive wall which enables children to experiment, play and create their own stories – alone or with their parents or grandparents. The wall decoration contains a main character (farm animals) and different locations (a pond, a bush, a shed and a sleeping area). At the locations, different items can be gathered, such as an apple from the bush. These  gathered items can then interact with all the other design on the wall.

Why Kickstarter

The Kickstarter campaign is made to raise funds to finalize the application. At the moment of writing, StoryWall has one character – Chloë Cow – and three locations. “We want to add more characters and locations in order to make the StoryWall world bigger and more interactive. However, game design and development takes time and it's expensive.” With the Kickstarter campaign, Studio Bleep hopes to raise enough funds to add more animals, locations and items.

How to Play

StoryWall uses augmented reality technology to make the elements of StoryWall come to life. Augmented reality is a live view of a real-world object or environment, supplemented by digital elements.  The player only needs to aim the application on the wall decoration and see the character or item come to life on the smartphone or tablet. Based on the combination of the different elements, children and parents are free to experiment with the multitude of possibilities and tell a story at the same time.

Studio Bleep

Studio Bleep is a young, innovative, indie game studio, based in Groningen, the Netherlands.  The game company was founded in 2013 by Merel van der Wees and Rieneke Schaap and they mainly focus on developing serious or applied games. In its short existince, the young game studio has already won several awards and Merel and Rieneke are now also nominated for the VIVA400 list; a list with 400 inspiring female entrepreneurs.
