LANSING, Mich. - Nov. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Lansing, Michigan based Collective Development Inc. started as a writing company for screenwriting partners Jeff Kennedy and DJ Perry. Kennedy had been Perry’s teacher in high school for Anthropology/Archeology and European History. Additionally Jeff ran a role-playing club centered on games like DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS and CALL OF CTHULHU.  Together with his wife Juanita Kennedy they took their team of players to several GEN CONS where fans of these games competed in tournaments. These experiences made it a no-brainer to create a movie based on the worst role playing legends mainly pushed into the main stream media with films like Tom Hanks “Mazes & Monsters”.

With very little behind the camera experience the two decided to turn from just writing into full production. “Knight Chills” became their company’s first feature film. It is about the avid role-playing nerd who has feelings for the popular girl. He suffers a great amount of bullying and when the girl of his affection makes it painfully clear that the feelings are not mutual – he is thrown into despair and kills himself. The power of the imagination is eternal and from beyond the grave returns our nerds favorite character. A mountain of a knight upon a warhorse seeking revenge Death Dealer style.

The film suffered the typical cracks from some critics but also found a fond spot in the hearts of gamers worldwide. The film was released in several countries such as Russia, Thailand, UK, and Germany.  The film had nearly a dozen releases domestically in the US/Canada with special editions and multi-packs after selling a respectable number of units on the film's 1st run. Audiences have made the film into a cult classic. Now a deal has been closed that will have the “Knight Chills” script penned into a book by genre author David C. Hayes.

David C. Hayes is an author, performer and filmmaker. His films, like A Man Called Nereus, Dark Places and The Frankenstein Syndrome (and approximately 70 more) can be seen worldwide. He is the author of several novels, collections and graphic novels including Cherub, Cannibal Fat Camp, Keeping Molly, American Guignol, Scorn and Muddled Mind: The Complete Works of Ed Wood, Jr. while his short work has graced many anthologies, magazines and journals. David's full-length and one-act plays have been produced from coast to coast with a runs Off-Broadway in New York and Chicago for the comedy Swamp Ho and sell-out performances in Phoenix for Dial P for Peanuts (winning a 2011 Ethingtony for Best Show). When not creating, David teaches film production, creative writing and communications and speaks frequently at book signings, comic conventions and gatherings of geek-culture.

An interesting clause in the deal gives Mr. Hayes a first right of refusal on penning book based upon the sequel. Rumors of a sequel have been around for years but CEO of Collective Development Inc. DJ Perry, confided that a story outline entitled “Knight Chills: Reborn” has been developed.

“We’ve got so much more experience now and it would be nice to go back to that very 1st film franchise and do things different - and by different, I mean better.” – DJ Perry, CDI

Also it was confirmed that some initial talks with original “Knight Chills” actors Michael Wayne Walton (John) & David Borowicz (Russell) has taken place. Both were killed in the original so we are not sure how they play into the new story. But it does sound like the Black Knight might return.
