St. Pete Nonprofit Launches Crowdfunding Campaign to Raise $55,000 in Three Weeks

A small, local organization hopes to raise big funds by going global on Indiegogo.com in conjunction with #GivingTuesday.

SAINT PETERSBURG, Fla. - Nov. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Addiction is a growing national epidemic, and a local nonprofit that has combated the epidemic by helping people in recovery for more than 25 years is set to purchase its own property for the first time, but needs to raise $55,000 in approximately three weeks in order to do so.

To raise the money, Terra Nova Club, Inc. has created a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.com called “Help Terra Nova Purchase a ‘New Land.’” Terra Nova’s $55,000 campaign ends at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 2, now internationally known as #GivingTuesday; however, it hopes to reach the goal by Nov. 30.

Florida State Rep. Darryl Rouson, a public advocate for addiction recovery, has endorsed the campaign. Addicts in recovery have a greater likelihood of re-engaging with family, finding housing and employment, and giving back to society, and Rouson has consistently initiated and supported ideas to improve treatment and recovery opportunities for the community.

“Terra Nova was founded in 1988 by a few people who wanted to make sure there was always a safe place for recovering addicts to have meetings,” said Emily Morganstein, board vice president. “It has become so much more than that to the community, but now needs a stable location to put down roots.”

Morganstein said the board of directors is looking forward to opening the new clubhouse to the greater community and updating the organization’s focus to include education about and group services for recovery from any addiction. She said board members would like the clubhouse to be a “recovery hub,” not currently in existence locally, fulfilling its slogan: “New land. New world. A new way to live.”

The current Terra Nova facility now hosts three dozen recovery meetings every week and offers a recreational clubhouse and drug- and alcohol-free social events. The property the organization is purchasing is at 7550 40th St. N., Pinellas Park. It is more than twice the size of their current space, has multiple rooms for concurrent meetings, a large hall and commercial kitchen, and five times the parking.

Terra Nova Club, Inc. is a member of the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce, Keep Saint Petersburg Local, the Grand Central District Association and LocalShops1.com.
