LSN Extends Fiber Networking Service to Northern California

PORTLAND, Ore. - Nov. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- LSN is excited to announce that they are expanding high-speed fiber networking services to Northern California next year.  The new fiber build to extend LSN’s network into California comes after months of planning and agreements with both local and national partners.  While still in the preliminary phase now, the company expects to complete the project sometime in Q3 or Q4 of 2015.

In light of LSN’s ongoing success in bringing services to rural communities in Oregon and Washington, expanding to California is a natural progression. The company has a presence in all 36 Oregon counties and an ever-growing presence in Washington State, where network expansion projects have just finished up in Yakima, Tri Cities and Longview.  Northern California is considered an underserved rural market, and LSN sees a need to help close the digital divide in the area.

Closing the digital divide, the gap in networking capabilities between metropolitan centers and their more rural counterparts, is an important issue in the telecommunications industry, one that both government and other organizational institutions (both non profit and private) are trying to solve. Northern California has rugged and mountainous terrain, which makes it a challenging and expensive area for telecommunication service expansion. An attempt was made to better serve the area through the Golden Bear Broadband proposal, however due to the amount of funding required and petitioning from incumbent service providers the project was withdrawn, leaving many Northern California residents and businesses without a reliable network.

LSN’s current expansion will bring new networking capabilities to the communities of Yreka, Weed, Mt. Shasta, Tule Lake and Susanville, with service extending as far south as Quincy. By tying these communities and the surrounding region to LSN’s backbone, Northern California will have access to highly redundant and robust networks, something the company has been providing to Pacific Northwest communities for 10 years.
