MIRAMAR, Fla. - Nov. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- AMD, one of the United States' largest distributors of medical supplies and equipment, and its employees don't play when it comes to heart health.

AMD wrapped up months of employee-created fundraisers and events for the American Heart Association (AHA) by sponsoring and walking in the 2014 Miami-Dade Heart Walk on November 1.

"Team AMD is a proud sponsor of the Heart Walk," says Sukrit Agriwal.  "Not only do we help raise awareness and resourses for such a worthy cause, but our team mates benefit from 'walking the walk' of a more healthy lifestyle."

Leading up to the Heart Walk, AMD’s employees came up with fun, creative ways to raise funds and increase awareness.  From selling baked goods, raffle tickets and balloons with prizes inside to organizing an “Ice Bucket Challenge” and a Mardi Gras event, AMD’s employees raised thousands for AHA.   AMD’s “Committee of Ambassadors” was responsible for the bake sale and Ice Bucket Challenge (which benefitted both AHA and ALS).

Out of all AMD employees, two people and one team staked their claims as “fundraising superstars”:

Top individual fundraisers:  Vanessa Gaddis ($528.78) and Francine Weinand ($215)

Top team:  Hearts of Steel ($700), whose members include Alexander Saunders, Enrique Fikes, Estella Leventhal, Latorra Laws, Palace Witherspoon, Rebecca Cartwright, Showana Crittenden, Vanesa Gaddis, Wendy Burns, Zakiyyah Bowleg and Zohar Yaacobi

As part of the heart-health campaign, many AMD employees made positive lifestyle changes.  From shedding pounds to kicking bad habits, the team members who made the biggest changes are:

Wendy Burns (made the most significant lifestyle changes) lost 90 pounds and quit smoking.
Sebastian Landau lost 60 pounds.
Precious Reeves lost 40 pounds.

Thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of “Team AMD,” the company’s second year supporting AHA was a huge success.  Thirty members of the AMD family came together for the heart walk, including AMD’s American Heart Associate Ambassador Zakiyyah Bowleg; Beverly Kuykendall, President Government Accounts; Zohar Yaacobi Director of Inside Sales, Wendy Burns, Director of Materials Management; and Maria Caraballo Executive Assistant for AMD.
