Riley Bennett & Egloff named Employer of the Year by Indiana State Chapter

INDIANAPOLIS - Nov. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- The National Multiple Sclerosis Society - Indiana State Chapter honored Riley Bennett & Egloff, LLP with its MS Superstar Employer of the Year award at the Society’s annual Moving Forward event, held at the Hilton Indianapolis North Hotel on October 25.  Riley Bennett & Egloff was nominated by a Hoosier living with multiple sclerosis (MS) for its dedication to the MS Movement.

“We were completely surprised, and honored, to hear that we had been named the MS Superstar Employer of the Year,” said partner Ryan Leitch of Riley Bennett & Egloff.  He and Ned Dragic accepted the award on behalf of the firm.

An individual living with the challenges of multiple sclerosis – who happens to utilize a mobility device – described the lengths that Riley Bennett & Egloff has taken to accommodate him:

“I nominate the Indianapolis law firm of Riley Bennett & Egloff.  While not my direct employer, that firm owns and occupies the same building as my law office.  The firm is essentially my landlord.  The size of our building does not mandate ADA compliance.  Notwithstanding, without any solicitation by me, the managing partners of that firm installed, at their own expense, automatic doors to make it easier for me to enter the building as my disease progressed.  They even gave me a remote for my keychain, allowing me to simply press a button on the remote to open the doors and gain entry to the building.  It is quite a handy tool, especially if I have anything in my hands or if the weather is inclement.”

“An unintended consequence to the installation of the automatic doors is that now the mail carrier and any other delivery person is extremely grateful as it makes their jobs easier when making deliveries.  The lawyers in the building likewise enjoy the automatic doors as they often have their hands full with briefcases or banker’s boxes containing the files on their cases.”

“This is a wonderful example of the way in which embracing those with those with differing abilities can benefit us all,” said Leigh Ann Erickson, president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Indiana State Chapter.  As advocates for the disability community as well as those with multiple sclerosis, it is important for us to highlight achievements as well as identify areas for improvement as we work to help those with MS live their best lives.”

The Indiana State Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society presents MS Superstar Awards in five categories statewide each year and announces the awards at its annual Moving Forward celebration.  Other award winners included Dr. Larry Blankenship of JWM Neurology in Anderson, who was named MS Superstar Physician of the Year and Cassandre Wear of Carmel, who won MS Superstar Nurse of the Year.  The Gatorade manufacturing plant in Indianapolis won MS Superstar Business Supporter of the Year, and Karin Inkoff-Holman of Carmel, John Goodson of Anderson and Michael Palmer of Indianapolis were named MS Superstar Volunteers of the Year.

About Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis, an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, interrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million people worldwide. It is the most disabling neurological disease in young to middle-aged adults.
