OAKLAND, Calif. - Nov. 12, 2014 - PRLog -- The Deconstruction, the experimental 48-hour global problem solving event, returns to the world stage for its second year, November 14-16, 2014.

The Deconstruction is a live streamed global event and game about rethinking objects and ideas. It encourages participants to tinker with the concepts and assumptions that construct reality in order to make the world a better (or at least, more interesting) place. Participants have only 48 hours, and they are challenged to use resources they have readily available and as little money as possible. The “uncompetition” is open to anyone, anywhere, of any age and skill level.

While the event is global, The Deconstruction’s live stream will be hosted from The Omni Commons in Oakland, Calif. by host Tyler Hanson, along with a list of co-host and guests who embody the Deconstruction spirit.

The 2013 Deconstruction (http://thedeconstruction.org/news/) was a global success, with more than 50 teams participating in six continents and more than 10 countries, with an array of highly celebrated projects. Team Les Sugus of Lausanne, Switzerland received world-wide media attention with its “The DRM Chair:” a project that deconstructed digital rights management with a chair that self-destructed after eight people sat in it.

HOW THE DECONSTRUCTION WORKS

Teams participating in the Deconstruction decide on an issue or concept in their lives or the world they want to rethink, either alone or in teams. Concepts can be large or small, high or lowbrow, political or artistic and anything in between. They can create the entire 48 hours or work within the time they have.

Starting at 4 p.m. PST on Friday, November 14, the teams begin to look at, take apart, get underneath, remix, and otherwise re-imagine their chosen concept in the method they choose whether it’s by building something, taking something apart, creating a piece of art, inventing a program or policy, making a video, etc.; but when the clock strikes 4 p.m. PST on Sunday, November 16, it’s “pencils down” for all teams and the unaward ceremony begins.

During the event, participants from around the world live stream their process and collaborate with one another other through the Deconstruction website as well as through the event’s light-hearted news-style broadcast.

Participants can register at TheDeconstruction.org (http://thedeconstruction.org/register). The registration deadline is Friday, November 14 at 4 pm PST. There is no cost to participate.

Those interested in watching the live feed and collaborating with participants can view the news style webcast starting at 4 pm PT on November 14 at TheDeconstruction.org. Locally, media are welcome to visit the studio; please inquire.
