AXA Gulf, Carrefour & KIMS Medical Centre Jointly launch the 2nd Diabetes Awareness Campaign

Jointly launch the 2ndDiabetes Awareness Campaign


·         Free glucose screening to over 5,000 people will take place in UAE from November 14 until December 7, 2014

·         Diabetes campaign to be held under the theme ‘Better Care about People’

With a view to help people improve their health and raise the standards of their wellbeing, AXA Insurance Gulf, along with KIMS medical centre Dubai and Carrefour have jointly announced the launch of the 2nd Diabetes Awareness Campaign across the UAE, titled “Better Care about People”. Leveraging on the success of the first campaign which was held jointly in 2013 with KIMS and Carrefour, the partners have together the commitment to continue their journey to fight this disease.

The kick-off of the campaign will take place on the World Diabetes Day on November 14, 2014,and will continue until December 7 across the UAE. The campaign aims at raising awareness on diabetes and its seriousness while offering free glucose screening to everyone.

Speaking about the campaign, Jérôme Droesch, CEO of AXA Insurance Gulf, said: “Worldwide, Diabetes is on the rise and people are unaware of how their lifestyle choices may impact their health. Simple choices are all what takes to keep healthy – and that is what we are here to promote. At AXA, we are committed to the interests of our society and giving back to the community. Our aim, is to continue to influence change through public awareness and education – among the public, and thereby support the UAE Ministry of Health’s goals of promoting public health standards.”

Thanking Carrefour and KIMS, Mr. Droesch, said: “This campaign is just another step toward a long journey of AXA’s unique vision and commitment to protection.  Our business is to protect people through a better anticipation of health risks. We are truly proud to be part of this noble purpose and we are delighted and thankful to have our partners, Carrefour and KIMS Medical Centre for the second year in a row.”

The campaign will encompass free blood glucose tests for public under the supervision of authorized doctors and nurses from KIMS Medical Centre across the UAE. Members of the public can visit any of these screening spots to check their blood glucose levels.

The screening sessions will take place at AXA retail shops in Dubai Mall on November 14 and 15; Dubai Internet City and Wafi Residence on November 18 and 19 and in Carrefour shops at Mall of the Emirates on November 14 and 15; Mirdif City Centre on November 21 and 22 and Deira City Centre on November 28 and 29.

Alaa Matar, General Manager ofKIMS Medical Centre, said: “This diabetes campaign fits perfectly with our overall strategy of diagnosis and helping people monitor their overall health conditions. A simple spot blood glucose test can help detect the blood glucose level in the body. Early detection can allow you to start the appropriate treatment on time and avoid health complications. Lack of awareness about diabetes, can lead to complications such as blindness, amputation and kidney failure. Our effort is to fight this disease with AXA, Carrefour and the Ministry of Health and we are happy to bring our medical expertise in such a noble initiative.”

The diabetes campaign is the 3rd awareness campaign –previous campaigns included heart and breast cancer awareness campaign- run by AXA in 2014   to raise awareness on non-communicable diseases in the UAE. According to WHO 2014 report for UAE, non-communicable diseases accounts for 65% of total deaths with cardiovascular diseases representing 30%, Cancers 13% and Diabetes 3%. Protection is in the DNA of AXA and is part of its corporate responsibility strategy, centred on initiatives to reach out to the community through awareness and education.
