Patrick Calabria Appointed to Fair Media Council Board of Directors

BETHPAGE, N.Y. - Nov. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- By a unanimous vote of the Fair Media Council Board of Directors, Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Enrollment Management at Farmingdale State College Patrick Calabria has been appointed a member of the board. The Fair Media Council is one of the oldest and most successful media watchdog organizations in the country.

“The Fair Media does extraordinary work in creating a dialogue with the media to ensure fairness and to focus media attention on issues that are important to the region. I hope I can contribute to the difference the organization is already making in these areas,” said Mr. Calabria.

FMC CEO Jaci Clement noted, “Patrick Calabria is an actively engaged and highly-committed community leader. His skills and leadership will enhance our organization, overall, while we plan our expansion.”

At Farmingdale State College, Mr. Calabria supervises all external relations and student recruitment for the largest college of applied sciences and technology in the State University of New York system. His responsibilities include admissions, enrollment management, government relations, media relations, alumni relations, marketing and advertising, graphic design, internal communications, social media, and the web.  He also serves as an adjunct professor of writing in the Professional Communications department at Farmingdale.

He was previously Chief Media Relations Officer at Stony Brook University, where he helped create an international profile for the campus and supervised all media efforts for the university, its Health Sciences Center, and Stony Brook University Hospital. Prior to that, Mr. Calabria also served as Vice President/Communications for the New York Islanders hockey team, where he was responsible for creating the Long Island Railroad Victims Fund, which raised $250,000 for victims and their families following a tragic shooting aboard a commuter train in 1993.

He began his professional career as a sports reporter with Newsday, where he covered five Stanley Cup championships and seven U.S. Open tennis championships, plus a variety of global assignments including Wimbledon and the French Open. He also covered the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada and the 1992 Winter Games in Albertville, France, and was Bureau Chief for the 1980 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Patrick Calabria is a graduate of Hofstra University. He lives in Seaford, N.Y. with his family and a notoriously cranky cat.
