ANDERSON, Ind. - Nov. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- Locals 301 and 1016 of the Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters (IKORCC) teamed up with The Path Home - Homes for Hoosier Heroes and various local trades to build a handicap-accessible home for a disabled Afghanistan war veteran.

The Path Home is a nonprofit organization that helps veterans and their families find their path home. Homes for Hoosier Heroes is a program created to assist Timothy Frank Senkowski, a former Army infantryman who was severely injured by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan, resulting in the loss of both of his legs.

The project for Tim is ongoing and involves many local trades, including the Carpenters of the IKORCC and the apprenticeship of the IKORCC Joint Apprenticeship and training fund.

The project hits close to home for several IKORCC members who transitioned into the Carpenter’s Union through the Helmets to Hardhats program. Helmets to Hardhats connects former military members with training and career opportunities in the construction industry and helps them transition back into civilian life.

“Being able to contribute to Tim’s home is the very least we can do to show our appreciation, and we feel so honored to lend our time and skills to say thank you to one of our nation’s heroes,” said Roy Loveless, IKORCC Representative.

“At the end of the day, it’s all about the men and women who serve our country and showing them our sincere respect for their sacrifices. We couldn’t be more thrilled to participate in such a wonderful project,” said Chris Vance, apprenticeship instructor.

The Indiana/Kentucky/Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters represents more than 32,000 professional tradespeople in 43 locals in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and parts of West Virginia and Tennessee. A proud affiliate of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, which has a century-plus tradition of representing the best of the building trades, the council works in partnership with more than 30,000 contractors, helping them find the best possible talent for their projects. The hallmark of the regional council is three-fold: training, professionalism and partnerships for economic development.
