Follow on Google News | Sage releases SageBIOS™ BSP for AMD’s Bald Eagle APU“With streamlined coreboot® as the first-stage bootloader, we believe that this board support package will provide the fastest boot times possible for Bald Eagle derivative products,” said Scott Hoot, president of Sage. “SeaBIOS was included as a second-stage bootloader to maximize the operating system options, including Windows, available for the embedded development community.” The SageBIOS BSP contains open source in its key elements, including the bootloaders, to provide flexibility in design and longevity in support. Sage is an Embedded Software, Solution and Tool Partner at AMD, with substantial experience in AGESA open source files and virtualization binaries. AMD launched the Bald Eagle second-generation R-series SoCs specifically for the embedded market, replacing the “Trinity” family of first-generation R-series APUs. The APU supports as many as four CPU cores together with a multipurpose programmable GPU supporting four independent displays, making it a great choice video display including casino and arcade gaming. SageBIOS BSPs have already enabled firmware boots of 250 milliseconds to a Linux kernel on earlier-generation AMD chips, of 707 milliseconds in advance of an operating system on an Intel® Atom E3800 System on a Chip (SoC) and in less than two seconds to a full Linux operating system boot on Intel-based laptops. “Fast is just one element of our BSPs that we think designers and manufacturers will find compelling,” About Sage Electronic Engineering Sage Electronic Engineering, LLC, of Longmont, Colo.
