RALEIGH, N.C. - Nov. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- The elections last week were not the only opportunity for some changes at the North Carolina General Assembly. With the hiring of Alex Miller, MSW, the North Carolina Nurses Association (NCNA) will have a new advocate when lawmakers convene for their next session in 2015. Miller joins NCNA after eight years of successfully lobbying for a variety of groups.

“Alex’s experience with advanced practice nursing issues gives him a great foundation for all nursing issues,” said NCNA CEO Tina Gordon, MPA, CAE, FACHE. “He has proven to be a fierce and effective advocate for nurses and patients and we are happy that he has accepted the opportunity to heighten his advocacy for all of nursing in North Carolina.”

“I’m thrilled to be representing NCNA and the over 146,000 Nurses on the frontlines of healthcare in our state,” Miller said. “I look forward to working with NCNA to ensure all North Carolinians have access to the excellent care our nurses provide.”

Miller’s addition to the NCNA government affairs team rounds out a roster of lobbyists that includes Gordon and Patrick Ballantine, JD, BA. The hiring of a new lobbyist was not unexpected for NCNA, as longtime Director of Government Relations Joanne Stevens, RN, MSN, announced last month that she is retiring after more than 16 years representing NCNA.
