LOS ANGELES - Nov. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- NEW BOOK “THE KINDNESS OF THE HANGMAN” FOLLOWS THE JOURNEY OF A HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR’S QUEST FOR FREEDOM

In his debut book, The Kindness of the Hangman: Even in Hell, There is Hope (Higgins Bay Press), Dr. Henry Oster shares his life story of being a young German boy who survived tragedy and despair in Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps,  to an extraordinary life in America.  Oster’s story of determination for freedom has inspired many through his 38 years of lectures at the Museum of Tolerance.

“Imprisonment is as old as human history, the desire for freedom is just as long”, says Henry Oster.  As a Holocaust Survivor, Oster realizes that his personal testimony details one of the world’s greatest crimes against humanity. He became one of the first speakers at the Museum of Tolerance because Oster knows from personal experience how easily people will commit genocide if there is no one to speak up against it.

About the Authors

Henry Oster, MD

As a young boy, Henry Oster survived deprivation in the Lodz Ghetto, a life-or-death selection in Birkenau extermination camp, a firing squad in Auschwitz, being strafed by an Allied fighter and starvation in Buchenwald.  Henry rebuilt his life in America, arriving at 18 with no family, no English, no money and no education.  He was one of  2,011 Jews uprooted from Cologne, Germany in 1941; and he is one of only two survivors. He recently retired as a world respected Professor of Optometry on his 85th birthday, he now spends his free time with his family and lecturing about his life.
